Protection
In our experience kids bike pants provide protection where it’s needed. They add an element of comfort. There is suggestion that because children are so light weight they have less discomfort than adults. No matter what your weight sitting on a bike seat can be uncomfortable if you are on it for a period of time. The seats on kids bikes are often not designed for comfort and the easiest solution to overcome this is for the child to wear padded pants. A common complaint both girls and boys experience is squashed bits or squashed soft tissue. They can also get chaffing around the soft tissue area because of sweat and problems with cotton underwear (see our story on Fabric for Activewear).

Kids are riding more in a variety of places
With the huge advances in bike technology over the past 15 years kids can now ride bikes with gearing & suspension. This allows them to go long distances and places they wouldn’t have been able to get to before.
