What cleaning tools will you need?
You may already have some tools that will do the job but having bike specific cleaning tools that are ready to go in a kit will help make this task easier and you will clean your bike more regularly. The tools you need include a large bristled brush – bike brush, small bristled brush, cloths – used wet and dry, bike cleaning detergent and a chain cleaning degreaser. Are you cleaning the whole bike or a specific part of the bike?
Certain parts of the bike need some extra special cleaning care to make sure your bike performs well. Specifically the drivetrain – that is the chain, chain ring, the rear cluster and jockey wheels. What cleaning solution will you need?
If you are cleaning your whole bike you will need a general bike cleaning detergent. You can use your kitchen detergent (biodegradable) a few squeezes in a bucket of water however bike specific detergents will fight the grease better. A cleaning solution in a spray bottle helps you spray into had to reach areas and components. Green oils – chain cleaner can also be used as a general bike cleaner by diluting in water at a 1:10 ratio.
