Learn how to use Natural Chamois Cream

Natural Chamois Cream is used to lubricate, soothe or repair skin damage.  It can be applied in two different ways

Directly onto the skin at points of contact with the seat or onto any areas suffering from irritation

Directly onto the padding (chamois) pants at points that contact the seat or over areas of skin that is suffering from irritation

For more information on why you would need to use a Natural Chamois Cream go to our story When Should You Use Chamois Cream.

What you will need to use a Natural Chamois Cream…

Clean skin or dry clean padded cycling pants.  Where you apply your cream is a bit of a personnel choice.  If you haven’t used chamois cream before try out both methods to see which you prefer.

Some people do not like the feeling of cream directly on their skin because it works as a barrier and does not absorb quickly.  Alternatively others do not like the feeling of putting on padded pants with cold, damp patches.

Applying Directly onto Your Clean Skin

Using your fingers scoop out a small amount of Natural Chamois Cream.  Once you have warmed it up by rubbing your hands together and gently apply onto areas that come into contact with your seat.  Pay particular attention to  pressure points and areas of friction.

Pressure points can be found where the weight of your body is transferred to the bike.  Usually where bone is contacting the seat – sit bones, pubic bone (for those who ride in a forward bend).

Friction points are created by movement and commonly lead to chaffing &/or ingrown hairs.  Usually where the edge of the saddle is contacting your moving leg or skin creases.  Also poorly placed seams from your pants.

Skin Test & Safety

Although this is a natural product you may want to test a small amount on your skin before use.  If any irritation from using the product occurs stop use immediately.

WASH IT OFF when you have finished, from both your padded pants & your body.  A warm shower removes the chamois cream, sweat, grim and bacteria.  It will also open hair follicles helping to prevent ingrown/infected hairs.

Watch out for intimate areas – mucus membranes – applying chamois cream here can cause tingling sensations, which can be distracting while riding.
