Womens Fitness Touring Bike Saddle Size Guide
Measure the sit bone width of your pelvis to match it to the right saddle width
Why is measuring sit bone width important?
To find bike seat comfort…one of the first things you need to do is ‘get the right saddle’. The right saddle for ‘you’ needs to be the correct width to match your individual pelvis width?
We need to make sure your sit bone area (part of your pelvis) can connect to and be supported by the saddle so it can do its job of supporting your body weight.
As every pelvis is different, and therefore sit bone width is individual the only accurate way to understand the saddle width you need is to measure your sit bone width.
At home sit bone width measurement.
You can measure your sit bone width at home using one of the two methods.

DIY Bike Saddle Fit Measurement
Take a piece of card that has a corrugate layer exposed. This type of card is often used for packaging. The corrugate must not be squashed or damaged. If you don’t have a piece you can get a thick piece of cardboard and pull off one layer to expose the corrugate.
Place the cardboard on a firm surface, like a stool. Sit on the card with a tall straight back. Place something under your feet so your thighs are slightly above the horizontal (going onto tip toes my be enough). Keeping your straight back with you hands under the stool gently pull the stool towards your bottom, this will just increase the connection between the hard surface and your sit bones, hold for 2 seconds.
If you have a lot of soft tissue in this area, with your hands you can pull the soft tissue to the side as you sit down to help expose the sit bones.
Stand up and you will see 2 areas of indent/ compression on the corrugate. You are looking to mark with a X the most compressed area. Often in the middle of the indent. Some people will get some compression of the corrugate due to the pressure from soft tissue, but you can see where the bone has connected as the hardness of bone will cause the corrugate to flatten more than the soft tissue.

What is your Riding Position?
Identify your riding position by analysing your riding angle. What is the angle between the line of the seat and the line of your back. This saddle is suitable for riders who ride in an upright to slight lean riding position. Between 90 – 60 degrees.
If you DO NOT have a riding angle between 90 and 60 degrees then this is not the right saddle for you see Mid to Full Lean Bike saddles.
Upright Riding Position
Riding angle 90-80 degrees.
Slight Lean Riding Position
Riding angle 80-60 degrees.
Matching you measurement to the correct saddle
If your measurement suggests either a Small or Medium then we have to consider additional factors to determine whether a small or medium size is a best fit. If you are petite then a small is best. If you carry some soft tissue then Medium would be best.
Common Questions
I am unable to measure
Measuring is always better. Most of our sales are for the medium size. The average size for a womens pelvis width is 13 to 13.5cm, with a range between 11-15. The average pelvis width matches to a medium for all riding positions. Unless you are a petite individual then it is likely that you will measure for a medium.
I feel like I sit between two riding positions.
If you feel like you fit between riding positions. Then use the position that is the more upright of the two.
I have a lot of soft tissue in this area.
If you measure into the small sized saddle but are close to being a medium and you have a lot of soft tissue in this area and not a really experienced rider then we suggest you purchase a medium. Most riders with a lot of soft tissue feel more comfortable when some of this tissue is also supported. Â
