Supporting you to get the right solutions so you can SMILE when you rideÂ
Â
Welcome to goRides Riding in the Rain page, where we support you to be prepared and have the gear you need to be comfortable to ride when it is wet.
You may choose to ride in the rain or you might be forced into riding in the rain because you get caught out with a weather change. Or you have a planned ride and the weather is not what you would have ordered or preferred. If you ride reasonably regularly at some stage you will ride in the rain. Let’s make sure you have gear that is appropriate for the conditions you find yourself in.
E-Bikes & the Rain
If you have an E-Bike extra care needs to be taken to protect your battery, motor and display from getting wet. Please read our story which will give you tips for continuing to ride in the wet on an E-Bike.
In Wet Conditions be Dry & Comfortable
Key things to know… The waterproof jacket/over trousers that you need will depend where and what you want to use it for. You need to evaluate the risks associated with your ride. A higher level of performance from your jacket is required if you are riding over time/distance or in environments where you are isolated and further from home or help.
Rain will lead to discomfort if you are also cold, or become cold, because your base and mid layers are damp. Therefore you not only need a waterproof outer layer but you also need warm and breathable base and mid layers to support you being comfortable in the rain.
Best way to solve these issues. Protect yourself from the rain by matching the level of jacket to your riding and outdoor needs. Have riding clothing that is breathable and moisture wicking to provide you with options to layer your clothing. In wet conditions your wheels will flick up rain and dirt onto you… mudguards will help prevent this.

Wet Conditions & Your GearÂ
Key things to know… If you are carrying gear you need to know that it will stay dry and be safe in the rain. Your additional layers need to be kept dry as well as anything that could be damaged by the rain.
Best way to solve these issues. Â Bags and covers that are made from waterproof fabrics will give you the assurance of keeping items dry. We would also recommend that you bag your items within your panniers or bags to give you another layer of protection e.g. your laptop.

In Wet Conditions Be Seen
Key things to know… In poor weather conditions it is much more difficult to see a cyclist on the road. If you are commuting and get caught in the rain or choose to ride in all weather we recommend visibility aids. Everything adds to your presence on the road. Consider whether you can be seen from the front, the rear and the side.
Best way to solve these issues. Bright and reflective outer layers with lights on the front and rear of your bike. Also consider a bright helmet.Â
