Supporting you and your family to SMILE when you ride.

Welcome. A Front Kids Bike Seat is a great first bike seat solution.  They are super easy to attach and remove from the adult bike once the mounting bracket/adaptor is installed. All front seats are safe for 1-3 years old and up to maximum weight of 17kg for your child.

You will love riding with you child positioned between your arms for the ultimate in interaction so you can enjoy the ride together.

Where does it attach?

All Front Seats are positioned between you and the handlebars. They are mounted onto an Adaptor/Bracket that clamps around or sits below the handlebar stem on the adult bike. These Adaptors/Brackets come with the Front Seats and are slightly different between brands.

Will it fit your bike?

The Front Seat is best suited to riders who are in an upright position.  If your bike does not place you in an upright position then your bike frame will need to be medium or larger.

Which Front Seat will fit on your bike? Does your bike meet the following criteria?

Attachment to Bike

Your options are dependent on the design of your bike – your stem and how much space you have available around or just below your handlebar stem.

Identify Your Stem – Quill or Threadless

1. If you have a Quill or Threaded stem (see photo) you need at least 20mm of space on the stem to successfully attach the mounting bracket. To gain enough space you may be able to lengthen your stem.

If you have 20mm of space your bike is compatible with this Front Seat option, the Front Kids Bike Seat (Thule Nexxt Mini)

2. You require a handlebar stem diameter of 20-28mm for the Adaptor/Bracket to clamp around.  Quill stems have 1″ = 25.4mm diameters so are compatible.

For more detailed information see Will a Front Kids Bike Seat (Thule Mini Nexxt) fit my Bike?

Quill Handlebar Stem

1. If you have a modern Threadless stem (see photo) you may have options depending on how much space there is by removing spacers/rings…

20mm or more. If you have enough spacers that you can gain 20mm of space your bike is compatible with the Front Kids Bike Seat (Thule Nexxt Mini) using the Standard Adaptor. For more detailed information see Will a Front Kids Bike Seat (Thule Mini Nexxt) fit my Bike?

5mm. If you have limited spacers but you can gain 5mm of space your bike is compatible with the Mountain Bike Front Kids Bike Seat (Urban Iki) using the MTB adaptor. For more detailed information see Will a Mountain Bike Front Seat fit my Bike?

2.You require a stem diameter of 28.6mm. The most common Threaded stem diameter on modern bikes is 1&1/8″ = 28.6mm these are compatible

There are modern mountain bikes (with non tapering forks) that have diameters greater than 28.6mm. ( 1.25″ = 31.75mm or 1.5″ = 38.1mm) these are incompatible.

To find out your diameter…You can measure across your diameter…  To do this on a modern style bike you need to take the handlebars and spacers off your bike to expose the tube underneath where the bracket attaches (the top of your fork)…  If this is challenging then Google the brand and model of your bike and check the specifications for Fork Steerer Tube.

Riding Safely – Frame Size

You may be able to successfully mount this Front Seat but can you ride safely?

Due to its position (between your chest and the handlebars) a Front Seat can make mounting a bike, stopping & starting, balance, as well as reaching your handlebars challenging. Please see Riding Safely with a Front Seat.

To give you an indication of the size, and thus the space that the Front Seats take up  – Thule Nexxt Mini, slightly reclined (28cm x 40cm) – Urban Iki, more reclined (35cm x 40cm) please take a good look at the photos.  If you ride a bike with a small or extra small frame size you may find it difficult to reach the handlebars around a Front Seat.  It will be particularly difficult (read impossible) if the style of bike you ride does not put your body in an upright position.

The Thule Nexxt Mini will take up 28 x 40cm of space

The Urban Iki will take up more space approximately 35cm x 40cm of space

Alternative Options

The compatibility of your bike and the set up of the Front Bike Seat may mean that it is not an option for you.

An alternative option is a Rear Kids Bike Seat.  This may be a better solution for you. Suitable for 1-6 year olds, this seat is closely mounted behind the adult rider. (Not compatible with full suspension MTBs).

For those riding full suspension mountain bikes please see MTB Mid Mount Seat. Suitable for 2-6 year olds mounted on the top tube of your frame.
